My library is a compendium of my curiosity, my struggles and my prying into the world. With it I am able to simultaneously unmoor myself from the everyday, while also rooting myself in its wonder. Its shelves are full of worlds and with characters who walk realms not so different from ours, whose hearts are not so different that ours. The words around me challenge and interrogate how I see, and why I see the way I do.

I have grown up surrounded by the written word. Books and stories have always been central in my landscape. I come from a family who loved books, a mother who, when I stepped into the dreaded era of double digits – was given free rein to read anything I wanted. No holds barred. Asimov, McCaffrey, Orwell, Dickens, Tolstoy – my mother said yes to anything I pulled off the shelf. There were not many young adult books to transition – here is Kafka or Auel – cold turkey at twelve. What is Metamorphosis? – my mother said – read and see.
