Bushwick

I laugh at the way some people think graffiti is all selfish tagging and vandalism. Thoughtful street art is like good fiction – it speaks out on behalf of everyone, for us all to see

- Carla H. Krueger

One of the best things we did while in New York was to go on a graffiti walking tour in Bushwick. Our tour guide was fantastic and his passion for all things art, specifically street-art, was undeniable. You were swept up in his excitement  as he told story after story of artists and works while we walked the lesser known streets of Bushwick.

Graffiti beguiles.

These walls covered in paint sprayed from a can - speak. They are threads of stories which comprise the weave and weft of an artists’ mind in that moment. A glimpse into the fusion of creativity, ingenuity and originality. It is storytelling art and those stories will tickle a grin out of you and see you stopping in your tracks while you decipher the seemingly simple meaning in a few colours and lines. These walls lament moments, they whisper to you in tones awash in hilarity - their glance measured.

With a lopsided grin they ask…. “what do you care”?

Impish grins, sidelong glances, up one moment and gone the next.
